ISB Placement Report 2026 Decoded, What the KPMG-Reviewed Numbers Really Say
The Indian School of Business has released its placement report for the PGP Class of 2026, and for the first time in a while the headline numbers come with an external check. KPMG reviewed the placement records behind the report, validating accepted offers against offer letters, final interview forms and recruiter correspondence. That matters, because most of what applicants read about the ISB placement report 2026 is recycled from social media summaries that mix up classes, averages and highest offers.
This analysis reads the report the way an admissions consultant reads it. Not only what the numbers are, but what they say about who gets placed where, how much career change is genuinely possible, and what that means for your own ISB application this season.

The Headline Numbers From the ISB Placement Report 2026
These figures come directly from ISB's official Class of 2026 placement report, reviewed by KPMG as of 10 October 2026.
Metric | Class of 2026 |
|---|---|
Class size | 811 |
Average salary | ₹37.12 lakh per annum |
Highest salary | ₹163.66 lakh per annum |
Total job offers | 1,177 |
Companies registered and activated | 282 |
Offers per student | 1.45 |
Companies making 10 or more offers | 27 |
First-time recruiters | 79, making 96 offers |
International offers | 35 |
Students who changed industry | 65% |
Students who changed function | 65% |
The class profile figures in the same report, average work experience of 4 years, average age of 27 and an average GMAT of 682, sit outside KPMG's review scope. The report says so explicitly, and you should read those three numbers as ISB's own reporting rather than audited data.
What KPMG Actually Reviewed, and Why It Matters
KPMG's note is narrow and precise. It validated accepted offers through offer letters where available, final interview forms and recruiter emails, and used offer communications for offers students did not accept. It did not review age, GMAT or prior work experience.
For an applicant this distinction is useful. The salary and offer data are the most reliable placement numbers any Indian business school publishes. The class profile numbers are directionally right but should not be used for fine-grained comparisons. When you see the "average GMAT 682" figure quoted next to ISB's separately published Focus average of 669 and Classic average of 720, the difference reflects how scores from two GMAT editions and the GRE are combined, not an error. Our GMAT score for ISB guide explains how to read those figures.
Three Years of ISB Placement Data Side by Side
The year-on-year table in the report is the most revealing page in it, and almost nobody discusses it.
Class | Class size | Registered companies | Offers | Offers per student |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Class of 2024 | 870 | 405 | 1,208 | 1.38 |
Class of 2025 | 816 | 364 | 1,164 | 1.42 |
Class of 2026 | 811 | 282 | 1,177 | 1.45 |
Fewer recruiters, more offers per student
Registered companies fell from 405 to 282 in two years, a drop of about 30 percent, while offers per student rose from 1.38 to 1.45. The recruiter base is consolidating. Twenty-seven companies made 10 or more offers each, including Accenture, Mastercard, EY, Deloitte, McKinsey, Alvarez and Marsal and Nagarro.
What consolidation means for you
Concentration is good news for candidates targeting consulting and technology, because the volume recruiters come back with depth. It is a caution for candidates targeting niche sectors, because the long tail of recruiters is thinner than it was. If your post-MBA goal sits in a less common industry, your network building during the year matters more than the placement process alone.

|---|---|
Consulting and professional or advisory services | 45% |
Technology | 26% |
BFSI | 9% |
FMCG, retail, consumer durables, ecommerce, agri | 6% |
Pharma, biotech, healthcare | 4% |

Others | 1% |
Function split of accepted offers
Function | Share of offer accepts |
|---|---|
Consulting and strategy | 46% |
Analytics and technology | 22% |
Sales and marketing | 9% |
Finance | 7% |
Others | 7% |
Operations | 5% |
General management and leadership development | 4% |
Consulting, technology, BFSI and FMCG together produced more than 86 percent of offers. Business and strategy consulting alone accounted for 46 percent of placements. If you want a deeper view of the consulting route, our guide on building a consulting career after the ISB MBA walks through how candidates position for it.
The finance number deserves a second look
Only 9 percent of accepted offers were in BFSI and 7 percent in finance roles. Candidates who arrive expecting investment banking to be a large share of the class often misread this. Finance at ISB is a focused, competitive track rather than a mass recruiter, and it rewards candidates who come with prior finance exposure or credentials. Our comparison of which MBA is good for finance covers how to judge the fit.
Career Change Is Real, and the Report Shows It
Sixty-five percent of the Class of 2026 changed industry and 65 percent changed function. The report illustrates this with real pivots, a bank manager who became a principal consultant, a navy officer who moved into pre-sales consulting, a teacher who became a technology consultant, and a PSU operations professional who moved into digital transformation at a multinational.
This is worth placing against a wider trend. GMAC's Prospective Students Survey 2026 found that globally, the share of candidates pursuing a business degree to change careers fell from 58 percent in 2022 to 42 percent in 2025. ISB's 65 percent shift rate shows that for the right profile, a one-year programme still delivers genuine career change. The candidates who make it happen are the ones whose applications already explain why the pivot makes sense.
The Senior Cohort Story Most Coverage Misses
The report notes that senior members of the class, with 6 to 17 years of experience, were hired into senior roles by recruiters including Accenture, Alvarez and Marsal, McKinsey, L'Oréal, Daiwa Capital, Genpact, Eli Lilly and Nagarro. This directly answers one of the most common questions we hear from experienced applicants, whether ISB placements work beyond the typical four-year profile. They do, but the roles are senior and fewer in number, and they reward candidates who articulate a precise post-MBA target.
What the Class of 2027 Profile Tells the Next Applicant
The same report publishes the incoming Class of 2027 profile.
Class of 2027 | Figure |
|---|---|
Total enrolled | 839 |
Women | 47% |
Average age | 26 years (range 21 to 42) |
Average work experience | 4 years (range 2 to 18) |
Up to 4 years of experience | 485 students |
4 to 6 years | 273 students |
6 years and above | 81 students |
The pool is young, and that changes your positioning
Fifty-eight percent of the incoming class has four years of experience or less. If you are applying with seven or eight years of experience, you are competing in a small segment of 81 seats where clarity of goals and leadership evidence weigh heavily. If you are applying with two or three years, you are in the largest pool, where differentiation in essays and interview is everything. Our guide on getting into ISB with less than three years of experience covers that route in detail.
Industry mix of the incoming class
ITES, professional services and R&D make up 38 percent of the Class of 2027, followed by banking, financial services and insurance at 21 percent. Smaller backgrounds include automobile and manufacturing, FMCG and media at 5 percent each, oil, gas, power and energy at 4 percent, healthcare at 4 percent and government, defence and PSUs at 3 percent. Applicants from the large IT and services pool need a sharper story to stand out. Applicants from the smaller pools bring natural diversity value and should lean into it.
How to Use This Report in Your ISB Application
Anchor your career goal in a function and industry where ISB has demonstrated depth. A goal in consulting, technology or strategy is credible on the evidence. A goal elsewhere needs a clearer bridge.
If you are planning a pivot, show the bridge in your essays. The 65 percent shift rate rewards candidates who explain transferable skills, not those who simply state a new destination.
Use the senior cohort evidence carefully. Experienced applicants should name the senior roles they are targeting.
Read salary data as a range, not a promise. The average of ₹37.12 lakh blends consulting, technology and finance offers with very different pay levels. Our breakdown of the average salary in ISB MBA shows how the distribution works.

What Our ISB Admits Show About Turning a Profile Into a Placement
Srinjoy Sarkar, a Senior Geologist at ONGC with seven years in oil exploration, brought one of the most unusual profiles in the pool and converted both ISB PGP and IIMA PGPX. His application explained exactly how subsurface decision-making translates to business judgement.
Armaan Kadiyan came from the social sector at Outreach Foundation and turned a background most recruiters rarely see into a clear ISB PGP application.
Mohit Vyas, an R&D engineer across Collins Aerospace, Airbus and Mercedes-Benz, converted ISB PGP after an interview that focused on business strategy rather than engineering detail. That is exactly the kind of bridge the 65 percent shift rate rewards.
