MBA Application Timeline India: ISB, IIM, and Global Deadlines for the 2026-27 Cycle
The most common application mistake Indian MBA candidates make has nothing to do with their essays or their GMAT score. It is a calendar problem. They underestimate how compressed the one-year MBA application season is, and they find themselves working on three or four applications simultaneously, under deadline pressure, producing work that reflects the rush.

Understanding the timeline first, before anything else, is the most underrated part of MBA application strategy.

The 2026-27 Indian MBA Deadline Landscape
For candidates targeting the 2027 intake across ISB and the IIM one-year executive programmes, here are the verified current deadlines.
ISB PGP (Class of 2028) Round 2 closes on 6 December 2026 Round 3 closes on 17 January 2027
IIMA PGPX Round 2 closes on 23 November 2026
IIMB EPGP Round 2 closes on 25 November 2026
IIM Calcutta MBAEx Round 1 closed in October 2026. Round 2 closes in December 2026, with interviews on 19 and 20 December.
IIM Lucknow IPMX
Phase 3, the final phase, closes on 1 December 2026
IIM Bangalore PGPEM (Weekend format) Round 1 used the IIMB Test on 25 October 2026 Round 2 uses the IIMB Test on 31 January 2027, with test registration closing on 23 January 2027
IIM Indore EPGP Phase 1 closes on 31 October 2026 Phase 2 closes on 11 January 2027
Confirm each date on the school's official admissions page before you submit, because schools sometimes extend or adjust rounds.
Round 1 deadlines for IIMA PGPX, IIMB EPGP, and ISB PGP have already passed for the 2027 intake. Candidates not yet in the process are working from Round 2 onwards.
Global Deadlines for Candidates Applying to Both Indian and International Programmes
If your list includes INSEAD, Cambridge Judge, HEC Paris, or other global programmes alongside ISB or IIM, the deadline picture gets more complex.
INSEAD MBA (August 2027 Intake) Round 1 closed on 15 September 2026 and Round 2 closes on 3 November 2026. Round 3 closes on 19 January 2027 and Round 4 on 9 March 2027.
INSEAD MBA (January intake) Applications for the January 2027 start closed during 2026, so new applicants should plan for the August 2027 intake or the next January intake.
Cambridge Judge MBA Round 2 closed on 5 October 2026 Round 3 closes on 4 January 2027 and Round 4 on 22 March 2027
Wharton MBA Round 2 closes on 5 January 2027
Kellogg School of Management Round 2 closes on 6 January 2027
NYU Stern Round 3 closes on 15 January 2027, after Round 2 closed on 15 October 2026
The key observation for Indian applicants targeting both ISB and a global programme is that the Round 1 seasons for most global programmes (September to October) overlapped with IIMA PGPX and IIMB EPGP Round 1 deadlines. From late October 2026, the active window for most programmes is Round 2, running November through January.

How to Plan Your Timeline If You Are Applying to Both ISB and INSEAD
This is one of the most common dual-application scenarios among Indian professionals with four to eight years of experience, international exposure, and goals that could fit either a fast-tracked Indian career path or a global one.
The strategic challenge is that these two applications are not just simultaneous. They are asking for different versions of your story. ISB wants to understand your leadership trajectory and intellectual curiosity through two essays totalling 800 words. INSEAD runs a much more demanding set of motivation and contribution essays that require significantly more development time.
A realistic planning framework for this scenario.
Now through early November. Finalise your story architecture. Before writing either application, you need to know what your three or four core professional narratives are, which experiences anchor your leadership story, and how your goals articulation differs between the two schools. This is strategic work that is worth doing once, properly, rather than arriving at the essays with no structure.
November. IIMA PGPX Round 2 closes November 23. IIMB EPGP Round 2 closes November 25. If you are in either of those applications, November is your primary submission month. INSEAD's Round 2 for the August 2027 intake also closes on 3 November, so this month needs planning well in advance if INSEAD is on your list.
December. ISB Round 2 closes December 6. This is the primary ISB deadline for candidates who missed Round 1. IIM Lucknow IPMX's final phase closes on 1 December and IIM Calcutta MBAEx Round 2 closes during December.
January. ISB Round 3 (January 17), Wharton Round 2 (January 5), Kellogg Round 2 (January 6), NYU Stern Round 3 (January 15), Cambridge Judge Round 3 (January 4), IIM Indore EPGP Phase 2 (January 11), INSEAD Round 3 (January 19) and the IIMB Test registration for PGPEM Round 2 (January 23) all fall in this window. January is the heaviest month of the cycle if you are running a multi-school application.
The honest advice for a candidate applying to both ISB and a global programme is simple. Do not plan to work on them concurrently under deadline pressure. The global programme essay set needs three to four weeks of serious work minimum. If you try to do ISB December 6 and INSEAD simultaneously, one application suffers. Usually the ISB one, because it appears shorter.
Which Round Should You Target at ISB
ISB offers three rounds for the PGP, and the decision about which round to target has meaningful consequences.
Round 1 is closed for the 2027 intake. For candidates targeting Round 2 (December 6, 2026), the application quality question is the same as it always was. A well-prepared Round 2 application outperforms a rushed Round 1. The scholarship competition is more limited in Round 2 than Round 1, ISB's scholarship pools are largest in the first round and diminish as seats fill, but Round 2 remains a strong option for most profiles.
Round 3 (January 17, 2027) is a viable round for reapplicants who have worked significantly on their profile between application cycles, and for candidates with unusually strong profiles who have a genuine reason for the late timing. It is not a round for candidates who ran out of time in Round 2.
The IIMA PGPX Timeline Specifically
IIMA PGPX operates on two rounds for the 2027-28 intake. Round 1 closed September 2, 2026. Round 2 closes November 23, 2026.
Unlike ISB, IIMA PGPX does not have a Round 3. If you are targeting IIMA PGPX for the 2027-28 batch and have not applied in Round 1, November 23 is your only remaining option. Missing this deadline means waiting a full year.
The IIMA PGPX interview process for shortlisted candidates typically runs in December and into January. The interview includes an extempore discussion component unique to this programme, which requires specific preparation that is separate from the personal interview.
Building Your MBA Application Timeline
Regardless of which programmes are on your list, the same planning logic applies. Start with the earliest deadline you are targeting and work backward six to eight weeks. That is your real start date for the application, not the deadline minus two weeks.
Six to eight weeks allows one week for resume work, two weeks for the first draft of essays, one week for feedback and reflection, two weeks for revision, and a final week for the recommendation letters to be submitted and documents to be uploaded.
Most candidates give themselves three weeks total. That is why most applications feel rushed.

What Real Application Timelines Look Like
Japneet Kaur, a Deputy Manager at SBI, ran four Round 1 applications in parallel while working full time, and converted IIMA PGPX, ISB PGP and IIMC MBAEx. That outcome came from planning the season before it began.
Nitin Singh managed applications to four IIMs from a commissioning site in Algeria, and secured IIMB EPGP, IIMC MBAEx and IIMK PGP BL.
Srishti missed Round 1 and began with one week left before Round 2, yet converted ISB PGP, IIMA PGPX and IIMB EPGP. Late starts can work with intensive support, but they are the exception, not a plan.
